The part that holds your usb cable in place is a plastic fitting and is quite sloppy and wont hold your phone securely

This charge stand is the solution to the issue with the apple stand when charging through a battery case that does not have a smart connector

There are other workaround stands with a cable pass through but they wont let you just place the phone on the lightning charging connector as you would with the apple stand

I went through two old usb extenders i had lying around and they didnt work for charging the phone within the case
