Customers have generally positive feedback regarding the signal range of this GMRS mobile radio. Some users report achieving good signal reports up to 75 miles away, while others mention that their old radios could reach similar distances. However, a few customers have noted that they experienced missing standard GMRS channels due to the radio's memory configuration.
Programming Ease
Customers have mixed feelings about the programming ease of the Retevis RA87 GMRS Mobile Radio. While some found it a bit tedious, others appreciated its ease of use through both the radio itself and software. However, a few users encountered difficulties during the programming process.
Power Output
Customers generally praise the radio for its strong power output, stating that it performs very close to or even exceeds the advertised 40 watts. However, a few users have reported lower than expected power output.
Highlights
Quality
The new mobile radio works great, it's got great features and comes with easy to read instructions.
Great sound great distance i can hit some repeaters when the conditions are right around 75 miles away.
Here are the things that i don't like so much: the radio's firmware prevents you from transmitting on memory slots 8-14.
Uncalibrated test equipment will produce incorrect readings.
Price
Best radio for the money hands down.
It rates up there with some 400 dollar radios.
Shipping
Performs as advertised, prompt, and i mean prompt shipping!
I received the retevis ra87 40watt, something was wrong with it, retevis replaced that radio in 2 days.
The first one i received had issues, but the replacement was sent quickly and i couldn't be happier with this radio.
Competitiveness
I have bought several different gmrs mobile radios.
A bit of a learning curve compared to some other radios, but not overly complex.

No problems with the features of the radio with the exception of rf power output which was not as advertised when measured by a meter into a dummy load

And yes i have hooked them up and used as a simple repeater i do not suggest that you do that unless you have a duplexer and a spectrum analyzer and know how to use it

However the retevis cps that you use to program the radio is absolute trash and it would have taken far to long to enter everything to make it a viable mobile option for me
