They're compact and not heavy, but solid seeming. Works well when reversing onto main roads. In urban environments, they're good for a few streets separation at street level.

Power output is restricted to 0

One of the radios menu options is to set power level but on ukeu spec sets this does nothing and the output power cant be changed using a programming cable either at least not using chirp and given the radio firmware as supplied

It might possibly be the case that the manufacturers own programming software allows these to be reflashed with us firmware and unlock different power levels i dont know because i havent tried

Pmr446 is deliberately rangelimited to suit the uses to which these radios are usually put

If you need more robust comms over a very large site get a business mobile radio license and enjoy less crowded frequencies and up to 5w power for a simple fiveyearly payment

If you want to experiment with longrange communication get a ham license

The scanning mode is not desperately well thought out on these the radio cycles through each of the sixteen channels using the programmed privacy code for each channel so if you want to scan the 34open34 channels for transmissions with any code in use you have to set all channels to privacy code 0

The cheap maplin radios i have scan with privacy code zero regardless of presets then detect and set the code in use on the strongest signal found this is arguably more useful
