Pros
The rt49p is set to privacy code 1 for all channels. This is due to the fact that there are well over 500 programmable privacy codes between ctcss and dcs. They float which is needed when on a kayak and are easy to set up and use.
Cons
Only one takes a charge. Must be defective. Could not be heard from cabin to the shore. Most annoying beating sounds that u cannot turn off.

Battery life seems good as we charged every nught but they were never more than half dead.
Battery dies if left off the charger, even if not being used.
Price
At that price differential they are a steal of a deal!
Which is impressive for a budget product.
But otherwise i would buy whichever was on sale.

Packed with features, which may be why the user interface is a bit fiddly, but that’s a minor criticism.
Competitiveness
The keypad lock symbol much easier to see than other brands.
Save yourself the money and get these instead of the motorola's version of the same thing.
They are very comparable to the much more expensive motorola 600s (which i also own).
It turns out they use the "common" values used by motorola, uniden, and many other manufacturers.

However upon first use during the drive the follow vehicle had to get within 100200 yards on the open highway rural area no mountains to be able to keep a clear signal which is far below what you should expect from a set of radios

Had we not been in cars you could have just yelled at that distance with the same efficacy in communication

Turning them onoff is a bit of a nuisance because of how the power button operated but it was a minor issue and more of a getting used to operating it than a manufacturing issue

One of the radios also ended up fully submerged in water at the end of a kayak trip
