The rt85 is small and ruggedly built. Great sound quality. See my demo video on youtube (build a full-duplex allstar node for under $200.
Eight voice scramblers keep others from hearing your tx. On vhf the rt85 puts out 5. Watts. The fm radio is a nice feature though.
Cons
The receiver is totally deaf. That's a bit annoying because if you program weather channels etc.

The retevis rt85 ham radios are better than baofeng uv-5r in every way.
The rt-85 (ham radio) and td-h5 (gmrs radio) are physically similar but the button operation is different.
The 85 along with the tyt-88 are the same radio configuration and use the same accessories including the battery.

The receive volume is too loud with the control rotated only about 90º the volume is more than loud enough a tiny change in rotation makes a big change in volume so its difficult to get a level thats 34just right34 fully modulated signals can sound slightly distorted
