Pros
The retractability means i have less gack hanging off of me. I keep my tape measure attached to this and it has saved me from damaging many counter tops countless times.
Cons
This product is fantastic until you use it in a wet dirty environment. After 1 month 1 won't go back in and is pulled all out so the line dangles and they easy get caught on things.

I needed to secure a metal detecting pin pointer this is only unit that i could extend and lock cable without having to flip a locking lever
