Pros & Cons
Pros
It has a braking system that forces it to stop far quicker than the makita. I really like that thoughtfulness, whether it was intentional or not. It removes material at a good clip.
The ridgid dust bag rotates into locking nubs that are solid and retain the bag perfectly. From fine sanding of solid oak cabinets to harsh, 40 grit rust scaling on steel, it still works!
Cons
It's like the unit is not even plugged in. You have to open the housing and shallow the ramps that actuate the microswitch, and then grease the interface. This results in an excessive amount of downtime especially if you are having it repaired under w... Read More
They have a lifetime warranty which i voided because i opened it. What good is a warranty without parts? The warranty is a hassle.

Problems with main bearing just above the sanding pad. Replacement pads are spendy.
Highlights
Quality
The sander feels tough and has a sense of quality when using it.
It is easy to use, change discs and is powerful and efficient.
The only thing i do, and have done, to my unit is blow it out with an air gun after each daily use to keep the motor free .
Called ridgid … they said the would not cover under their lifetime warranty.

But the pad that holds the sanding discs just tore itself apart and a replacement was $20 -- nearly a third of the cost of that... Read More
Packaging/appearance
I mean, it quite literally gets packed in there just like my old billy goat yard vacuum used to suck leaves -- the debris is pa... Read More
Competitiveness
I have had other sanders, but the size, weight, usability, and price make this one hard to beat.
It has a braking system that forces it to stop far quicker than the makita.
