Others claimed three can not go on a side but a magnet can hold 2 paring knives with no issue and each side could hold 4 thin small paring knives

The finish is not an issue it is ok heck you are using it to snap knives onto and a fancy finish would take a beating over time i would imagine

Never really noticed how annoying fitting knives into my standard block was until i could just pop them directly on this one and let the magnets do their job
