It is not a full stereo system and the sound quality reflects this

As in it will not keep you awake in a dark room but still perfectly readable and if you think it is too low then there is a medium setting

In standbye mode it will simply be black but will return to its normal state if you press any of the buttons on the top and stay on for 10 seconds before going out again
