Pros & Cons
Pros
The retractable tip is worth the extra money.
Definitely the biggest issue affecting experience. It's frustrating to deal with, but it somehow fixed itself for me. Increasing writing pressure makes it more pronounced.
Highlights
Quality
It feels solid and ive dropped it a bunch with the tip retracted and have never had any problems.
If you hold your pencil with a low angle of contact (flatter in your hand) with the writing surface, it will be prone to breaking the lead.
I've been spoiled by the quality of these.
Shipping
Spare erasers cost a fortune for this pencil (i bought a pack of four for $8 minus shipping and taxes).
Packaging/appearance
I like the retractable tip feature since you can carry it in a pocket and not poke holes in the pocket.
Things to consider in the long term:1) paint chipping.
Competitiveness
This is my third rotring mechanical pencil.
I had a rotring 800 before, and the lead breakage was also present but subsided after some time.
