Pros & Cons
Pros
Just ignore all the whiny babies saying there is too much play or not a good enough click. They also have no problems using them as instructions are distinct & specific. Rotring's stock hb leads feel a bit harder than other brands.
The retractable tip is a revelation. The weight is perfect, lead retracts so no holes in the pockets, and the lead is in a barrel which prevents breaking while in use.
The grip is fantastic. It always feels secure and is a comfortable girth for my somewhat undersized hands. Writing to grandkids, kids, friends.
Cons
The internals are both cheap and highly fragile. They have no interest in maintaining customer loyalty. In case you're tempted by the 2 year they're very difficult to get ahold of. Such a huge disappointment.
Top knurled portion which you rotate to retract the tip is very wobbly. When you push the end of the pencil to get more graphite to come out, the entire internal mechanism is very loose. The twist to retract mechanism feels extremely flimsly and cheap... Read More
The distance from the clutch to the tip is quite long. This means that a longer than normal amount of lead becomes unusable as the back end exits the clutch.

Packaging/appearance
I previously had the rotring 600 for several years and decided to upgrade to this one.
I bought this pencil because i had 2 gg1000 pencils break in the same exact way (plastic barrel threads broken).
Competitiveness
I own several rotring products i have acquired over the years.
7mm rotring 800 i received has absolutely no issues and is a thing of beauty.
I would say that if you really wanted a retractable tip, like i did, and you only wanted a rotring pencil, then the 800 is wort... Read More
