Pros

Aesthetically it's not the most pleasing to the eye but from a functionality and comfort standpoint it is a good solid pencil. The refill that comes with the pen is just flawless. This pencil is worth every penny.

The lead advancement is smooth and it has a good balance. The only hiccup i have seen with mine is that the lead advancement will hang sometimes when you click the top to advance the lead. I enjoy writing with it because i use a 2b lead that makes it ...  Read More

Sturdy with a reliable clicking mechanism. Perfect for my kid, who gets frustrated with thinner ones that are constantly breaking on them. Still, it’s very good, but as you push it down the amount of tip that comes out is not short enough to prevent i...  Read More

Cons

The rotring 500 drafting pencil is over rated and no dependable. The lead breaks every few words if you put a little pressure or hold the pencil at an angle to the paper.

Quality

I have had a lot more lead breaks however which is a downside but it does not outweigh the quality of writing i can produce.

The lead advancement is smooth and it has a good balance.

Not the good german quality you would expect.

This is 100% rotring quality that you'll put in your bag, not a display case.

Price

Only wished the price was cheaper, more comparable to the one in europe.

The price is also shockingly low - i would probably pay $100 for one of these given that they last so well.

Packaging/appearance

All other ones i have ordered come in original packaging.

Competitiveness

I bought this pencil because i used to use a rotring pencil many years ago during elementary school.

I use a rotring tikky to take notes in my college courses.

If you want a smoother feeling, then a graphgear might be better.

Just to clarify all rotring pencils are made in germany.
