The softback version of the book smells like wd40

I could only read about 10 pages at a time and then i had to put it down and wash my hands before i got a headache from the smell

I expected the book to be all about caesar but he turned out to play a minor though critical role in this story

I mean he obviously was central to the endpoint of this story the collapse of the roman republic but his name only popped up here and there and mostly in one chapter

How it functioned and how it gradually selfdestructed giving way to the roman empire and the loss of freedom at least as the romans defined it
