I could only read about 10 pages at a time and then i had to put it down and wash my hands before i got a headache from the smell

Although a reader of history for over 50 years for fun i didnt discover tom holland until a year ago when his book on the north of isalm was recommended by my favorite philosopher by nt taleb

The book essentially starts with sulla how he and marius fought about getting the mandate to be sent to the east to subdue mithridates of bithynia and how sulla being send to fight in the social war was outmaneuvered by marius

A sacrilege that the citizens tried to resist by throwing tiles form the roofs but as sulla had the power on his side he could take over the power as dictator and institute his “reforms”
