Pros & Cons
Pros
L su-1 performs as well as, and much better than, most of the best audiophile dacs. Built around a quality akm chip and is completely transparent. I’m glad they rebuilt.
This is going to be an interim review while i get my thoughts in order. In a word, shocking.
The su-1 exposes all the layers, tonality, and acoustic environment of this engineering masterpiece. Great detail with airy notes. On some tracks it just sounds musical and engaging.
Smsl su-1 is a dac that supports any audio format you need for music. It also supports windows volume control when not in exclusive mode. My receiver has a setting that powers all 5. Monitors. For windows 10 plug and play, this device is absolutely as... Read More
L is a great little size and its sound belies its diminutive size. And has a little more girth in the low mids, which is nice for some music.
Cons
The problem is, it produces a compressed sound. Despite having emails from smsl stating this item is compatible with iphone, it’s not.

Price
This is truly a bargain at $80.
The sound is excellent for $80, that’s insane.
I would’ve put this up against any sub $1000 dac available today
This was my last try before ordering a $500 geshelli…what a surprise!
Shipping
Com support staff replied my to my email, asked for the amazon purchase invoice and order number.
Some of those orders have taken up to 21 days in the past - not so when you order it from amazon.
Hopefully they'll reply in a timely manner with a resolution.
Fast forward to feb 2024, i finally ordered a pair of cess 163-4i rca cables, connected the dac to my amplifier.
Competitiveness
This way i can compare and contrast various dacs and other ancilliary audio components.
Get this dac it's the best sounding dac for the price period it sounds better than some $600 dollar digital to analog converts period!
I thought my old sound card is already decent enough but comparing to this dac, they are definitely not in the same league.
I have two other sub-$200 dacs, the topping e50, and the smsl e300.
