Ive noticed that a lot of alan moores most famous works tend to be serialized issues so i wondered whether his stories would still be good when half the book is composed of standalone stories

This volume definitely is a rollercoaster of tone and genre moving from horror to comedy to romance then psychedelic scifi

Liberated from the comics code this title really turned on the heat with some of the most beautifull frightening images that stephen bissette and john totleben could provide like the arcane three parter that continues the plot thread from the last volume or the unforgettable images of hell

While the stories and artwork are still some of the best the sad part of this hardcover is that this could have been an excellent chance to give an overhaul to the coloring which wasnt so bad the last volume but reflect not so great on tanya woods work

I understand this could be from some limitation from the era these comics were originally made but i cannot yet understand why they could give sandman a brand new recoloring which looks great and not to this book most of the comments about this from buyers imply that we wouldnt have minded paying a bit more for a definitive version of swamp thing

When alan moore took over dcs then failing swamp thing series in 1984 he swept aside the mythology that had been built up since len wein and bernie wrightson had begun the first regular swamp thing series back in 1972 and instead firmly rooted the character into the circumstances and environment envisioned in house of secrets 92 the oneshot comic that first introduced the world to the swamp thing

Prior to moores arrival on the scene the swamp thing itself had been a mutated version of the scientist alec holland his plight caused by a tragic explosion at his laboratory

Moore however wanted to return the swamp thing series back to its horror roots and so in his first issue in charge he brought the evil sunderland corporation to the forefront and had them apparently kill the swamp thing in a hail of bullets in an attempt to discover the secrets of alec hollands research
