Pros

They're a great price when compared to sonnelier. For advanced beginners as well as for artists ones, i am recommended the crays juniors, then crays expressionnist, then pentel art as first layers.

I was wrong - they are terrific. Would recommend highly. No complaint here.

Colors are brilliant and buttery. Good pigment saturation, pretty uniform in hardness/opacity. Other colors are downright jaw-dropping.

Specialist line has different color range so can be combined with expressionist set. The biggest difference is that the expressionist blends much more smoothly. Specialist set has more transparent pigments and handles details better because of its fir...  Read More

Had a set of these about ten years ago and believe sakura has improved the product.

Anyone interested in trying a professional quality product would do well with specialist oil pastels.

Price

Best price found both locally and online.

Very nice for the price, i likem and ill be buying more when i run out.

Shipping

Delivery was timely, only online dealer who didn't overcharge for shipping.

Packaging/appearance

That said, i don’t feel that this set stands on its own the because of the more transparent pigments.

Competitiveness

Sakura seems to really understand how to price-point their products.

Update: may-2016:having used other pro brands since my first posting i like these the best.

They also do not develop a haze like carandache', a more expensive brand.

They are mostly not opaque as well as than the expressionnist one of the same brand.

Because it’s a new medium for me i wasn’t sure if i would like it and didn’t want to spend a ton of money on the senneiler set yet

The munguo’s do stand on their own but are made much better by the addition of the transparent pigments in this specialist set

First the negative on most papers even high quality ones the sticks drag across the surface strathmore 400 pastel paper being the exception

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Other reviewers complained that the sticks are waxy but i think they have the opposite problem too little wax

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Neocolor wax pastels glide across the same papers that the specialist oil pastels do not and leave as much pigment without 34crumbs

Im probably going to keep this box if not ill give it away
