That must have changed because when i did the install on my mac it made it optional to use the encryption

When i opted for it it even stopped me to ensure i understood and wanted it passworded

After that any time you connect the drive to your computer the unit makes you wait about 10 seconds likely depends on processor speed while it decrypts the drive but thats not a big deal for me

For someone who wants instant access without waiting consider the no encryption option
