Quality is great and i've had it over a year and can't complain about anything.
Picture quality was really a function of how the manufacturers designed the pixel arrangement in the tube.

Packaging/appearance
This tv is great right out of the box.
Was easy to install and for our part required almost no fine tuning.
Tv came in original box and packaging.
Finally i stumbled across the 40-inch samsung 6000.
Competitiveness
For only slightly more than several of the no-name brands at the big box stores you can purchase a quality tv.
I have a yamaha 101/1010 soundbar hooked up and it makes a difference.
I realize it has some fancy features like a 120hz refresh rate and all that, but i hate how that looks.
Update - 3/12/2013: i've upgraded this to 4 stars because we got a blu-ray player last night and rented our first blu-ray movie.

I am no electronic or hdtv guru but from my layman experience i have come to a possible reason for the fatique and possible fix that should apply to all types of lcd based tvs old tube tv was basically a very fancy light bulb that showed pretty pictures at a set brightness

At first it was the 3 dot arrangement of red green blue on a basically white matrix
