I was aa bit apprehensive about the metal end shown in the photos on amazon as there was no metal on the socket that i had removed

It turned out that the metal is simply an adapter to allow thew socket to be screwed to a regular lamp fixture it comes off when the two holding screws are removed

Worked perfect self secure wire openings on back easy to connect to existing wires metal bracket screwed right into the existing fixture threaded end

The old socket had the metal connection get fried where the halogen bulb plugged in which was making the light go on and off
