The base has a protective cover under it so it does not scratch the desk

I am using it with a 50w 120v par20 halogen bulb so i am getting much more light than i would from the 60 watt max it is rated for or after 2014 than a cfl would produce

Covers for switches are better quality than what im used to for this sort of lamp and dont seem as though they will be so likely to fall off

Heat on plastic shades would cause brittleness and eventual breakage
