Had tried motiondetector night light on the middle landing receptacle which worked fairly well except the light would often be knocked out of the wall when someone was carrying something up or down

Motion detector light switches at each end would have worked but could not limit them to only the first step at the top or bottom of the stairs so the light would come on just about anytime anyone moved on the lower floor

Seems like it would almost be in the building code to have an auto light in a stairway
