Pros & Cons
Pros
Heavy duty and can probably be used as an improvised weapon if needed. While there are a lot of pens advertising dna catchers and other means of having a jagged cap end for striking, you want to be able to brace your thumb on a flat, solid surface. Gr... Read More
This comes with a very effective ferro rod and striker. Glass breaker works beautiful without a lot of effort. Fire starter works well.
The pen rights beautifully and can fit a lot of refill possibilities with any mini d1 refill fitting it. I really, really appreciate a smooth writing pen, that won't bleed, skip or feel scratchy for writing. The only con is the ink is very cheap and y... Read More
Rubber gasket creates a very tight and secure seal between the compartments. Has a whistle, a fire starter and a window breaker as well. The whistle is excellent and will draw eyeballs to anyone blowing it in a parking lot-no matter how large!
Pen is lightweight and looks sturdy. Looks very tough and should last many years unless i lose it or someone borrow it.
Cons
Tough material is by all means useless (except for taking picture) the pen feature was rather average for the hassle of carrying it around. The beefy frame make it pretty much useless for daily usage, since it barely fit inside any belt pouch.
Ferro pen comes loose every other day and now the threading that holds the striker has detached from the pen. The striker steel appears to have been glued into the end cap.
Highlights
Quality
Great pen, does everything it says it does and does it well.
Very nice survival tool built in and its a ink pen.
It does not feel solid (the ink cartridge wiggles) and the striker does not come out without a tool (as said in other reviews).
You strike as hard as possible in the corner of any car window and it will shatter.
Price
65 for five of the private reserve -- from lanier pens -- as opposed to $5.
It's about twice as expensive, but as they say - you get what you pay for.
Packaging/appearance
Well, i'd say the "sealing" aspect of all the parts is something to be mindful of, when you toss it in your pack.
Competitiveness

So in other words while i dont expect to be facing off against super villains with this thing or putting it to the test as the only item that survived a plane crash with me the concept of a pen that doubles as a set of tools is pretty cool
