I found the best way to handle it is to tape it face down to a table and apply the item to the sheet as you unroll the backing being careful to avoid air bubbles

On the one end youll have little bits of tape stuck to the sheet but theres no helping that

Apply first and then cut any excesstheres a strip on one side thats perforated so you can pull off the backing and if you cut that off itll be really hard to separate
