He had the jewelers magnified loupe his father used to look at dates on old coins but it was clumsy because it was difficult to keep on his eyelid

A scratch in the upper corner of the lens wouldnt be horrible but no one wants a scratch on a glasses lens

Its just a cheap bit of plastic and i think the lens may be plastic as well

As others have mentioned in reviews here you do have to hold your face very close to the object you are viewing in order for it to come into focus
