Pros & Cons
Pros
This 16tb bare drive sold by hyperhawk and shipped by amazon came nicely packaged in a proper hard drive box, wrapped in an anti-static bag. Since your computers works on the binary system, there is an increment of 2 to the 10th power or 1,024 in each... Read More
Price is exceptionally reasonable at just over two hundred bucks. Not a deal breaker to me. Overall it's faster and cheaper.
The exos x16 is the one to go for if you want to pack your nas or server with storage goodness. The price per tb for exos drives depends on the choice of capacity, and at the time of purchase this was the best offered. I have 6 in my nas that is 5ft a... Read More
Read/write speeds close to 270mb/s for both, read and write. Sequential reads/writes and 700ish iops. Temps are decent even during prolonged writes. Runs really well, replaced 4 2tb's and a 4tb drive.
A lot of people have complained about the noise with this drive. The msi desktop is whisper quiet. I have my nas in my office and if it's writing it's relatively loud.
Cons
These are very sensitive instruments and should not be shipped like that. They should be properly cushioned for shipping.
Highlights
Quality
I’m pretty happy with the product and seller.
Happy with the purchase and value over all.
Unfortunately the product didn't work when it arrived and appeared defective - 'stuff' happens.
Seems unlikely that seagate even produces a consumer style package for this class of product.
Price
And the price is exceptionally reasonable at just over two hundred bucks.
If the price drops enough, i'll add another or maybe even two more down the road.
Shipping
Credit to the seller, who provided a shipping label for return and issued a quick refund.
Competitiveness
I purchased 4 of them to put into one of 3 supermicro sys-5018r-m 1u servers.
I built a 12 bay synology with each bay having this drive and created a cloud storage system.
I bought a exos x16 14 tb from the seller hyperhawk.
I have no explanation, but lately, larger exos drives are cheaper per terabyte than ironwolf drives.

With windows constantly waking up the drive this defeats the power management and gets annoying with constant windows notifications that it has woken up a device

I recommend tweaking the exos power management using the seachest powercontrol to change or disable the advanced exos power management
