Pros & Cons
Pros
The drives purchased here have the full 5 year warranty. I have 6 in my nas that is 5ft away. They are both in the process of being added to existing raid arrays on a pair of nas's.
The price per tb for exos drives depends on the choice of capacity, and at the time of purchase this was the best offered. Yes, still can’t see 8tb due to win 7 limitations, but better than only seeing only 2. They have great capacity for the money an... Read More
This is a good backup solution before ssds get really gigantic and cheap to fully replace hdds. Since your computers works on the binary system, there is an increment of 2 to the 10th power or 1,024 in each storage level. That's very decent for hdd.
It runs flawlessly and super fast. Ultra quiet also.
Cons
Decided to go wd red for this drive. This is being sold as a 16tb drive but is actually a 14tb dr drive when installed into windows 10 system. Tb of bad sectors. Drive was delivered damaged after waiting over a week to receive even though sold as prim... Read More
Consistently horrific. Loud, noisy, high failure rate. Media server with light usage - mostly reads.
Highlights
Quality
It's a very high quality drive and works great in my pc.
Plenty of room for storage seagate quality.
Unfortunately the product didn't work when it arrived and appeared defective - 'stuff' happens.
Seems unlikely that seagate even produces a "consumer style" package for this class of product.
Price
Got mine for 199$, so for that price 14tb is a steal!
If the price drops enough, i'll add another or maybe even two more down the road.
Shipping
Some sellers are shipping drives that do not have a valid usa warranty.
Credit to the seller, who provided a shipping label for return and issued a quick refund.
Competitiveness
I checked the serial number on seagate's website and it reported the full 5-year warranty as expected.
I have not had to do this with my other exos drive on windows 10.
I have no explanation, but lately, larger exos drives are cheaper per terabyte than ironwolf drives.
