Pros & Cons
Pros
Marvell's enterprise hard disk drive delivers sequential reads & writes up to 165 mb/s, and has access time of 8. Hours. My main boot drive is a raid 3/0 stripe array of 120 gb ssd's.
Life expectancy goes with the warranty. No complaints.
The drive has good performance and low-profile acoustics. It remained powered on far more than powered off. The drive physically resembles some of the old drives.
Noise is not bad either, enterprise tend to be a bit louder due to being more robust. Almost always rattling.
The drive is sata iii, but my controller is sata ii, so it's slower than optimal. It's still as quite as day 1 and just as fast. Impressive from a 7200 rpm drive.
Cons
Most hard drive have a 2 yr. Warranty. There is no warranty on these drives through seagate or dell. This is blatantly false advertising by the seller.
Highlights
Quality
Excellent improvement in speed and reliability, it make a slight noise while heavy operations but is very quite otherwise.
The drive has good performance and low-profile acoustics.
Had some consumer grade hds to start and they kept failing after about a years worth of duty.
And both of the sata drives died on me, after the one year warranty, but nonetheless dead.

Shipped rather quickly once the order went through.
Packaging/appearance
So pleased, that when amazon learns how to properly package it, i will buy another.
The hd was able to move around and rattle inside the packaging which to me is unacceptable.
My only complaint is the packaging that it came in was not adequate for a hardrive and has me worried about the long term effec... Read More
It comes in a plain brown box but is held in place by plastic trays to ensure that it isn't damages in transit.
Competitiveness
This unit is an "enterprise" hdd and, according to intel, is built better to last longer than standard consumer drives.
Second, there is no seagate factory warranty on the drive.
So my looking elsewhere was really limited to enterprise grade hdds, more or less.
Machines that are built for the mass market have to compete on price, and for a few dollars more i can build a rock solid machine.
