Pros
I like the design of the drive and the rubber outer shell. It feels like a quality product. The date xfer rate is amazing and seagate is know for making quality drives.
Best feature is that it gives you a choice of usb or firewire. Comes with a usb cable and a firewire cable -- a nice change of pace. Only time i have had a drive disconnect is when i am using an external usb hub.
This drive is perfect for what i needed and it easily recognized my mac and interacted with it quickly. Do the erase operation in the mac disk utility.
Cons
Seagate 3 tb works intermittently (now the lights are not even turning on) i have a 4 tb seagate (which i now regret buying) and now the mbp retina is unable to read it at all. If there's no 'new', it's mounted as read-only. I can't even wipe the driv... Read More
The micro-usb 3 issue ruins the entire product though. Is it because they want people to invest in thunderbolt and not usb 3?

Very nice product and price great speed using thunderbolt
The reality, it cost me an extra $40 to get the drive i really wanted and twice ordered.
Shipping
Doing so was fast and easy with mac os x's disk utility app.
I use it for film work, and it feels like it is an internal drive, it is so fast.
Competitiveness
There are plenty of smaller, bus-powered usb drives in the same capacity for half the price or less.

That said crystalmark tells me i probably have less than 100 hours on this as an archival drive for documents dating that far back since i dont like a lot of that stuff on the cloud so ive used the base of this more than i have the drive given it works with bare drives of any sort

While i initially liked the timecapsule concept of having your wifi router integrated in your backup device reality is that technology improves so fast that it does not make sense to have such a dependency

It lasted for about 4 years before breaking down gradually which was good because i knew it was time to replace it before it completely stopped working
