Pros & Cons
Pros
Price is exceptionally reasonable at just over two hundred bucks. Speeds are decent, with 260+/- sequential reads/writes. Temps are decent even during prolonged writes.
Seagate ironwolf hdds are ideal for nas implementations. I have 6 in my nas that is 5ft away. It's big enough for my massive collection of movies, shows and music with about 5tb of space left for more files.
A used drive wouldn't have this much warranty left (5 years is the listed warranty length). No issues at all when ran through preclear. Gonna run a couple long tests using smartctl and badblocks for further quality inspection.
The only mild complaint is that it's a tad bit noisy. These drives are a little noisy on spin up but my server is in a non-living area.
Exos x16 is the one to go for if you want to pack your nas or server with storage goodness. Comes in a proper hard drive box, wrapped in an anti-static bag, with plastic fittings on either end to suspend the drive within the box. Runs cooler than my s... Read More
Cons
Seagate's warranty website is non functional. I have no idea if they is due to 3rd party seller or seagate just doesn't want to honor their warranty on these unreliable drives. These are very sensitive instruments and should not be shipped like that. ... Read More
Highlights
Quality
I’m pretty happy with the product and seller.
Already owned a 8tb exos and it's still working fine after some years, let's see if this one keeps up with the quality.
Unfortunately the product didn't work when it arrived and appeared defective - 'stuff' happens.
Seems unlikely that seagate even produces a "consumer style" package for this class of product.
Price
Even if it were to fail in a few years i'd likely get another one, because the price is so reasonable.
The price is also meager $210 - $15 per tb!
Got mine for 199$, so for that price 14tb is a steal!
If the price drops enough, i'll add another or maybe even two more down the road.
Shipping
Credit to the seller, who provided a shipping label for return and issued a quick refund.
Competitiveness
Im using a synology diskstation and the drive runs quitely and ive had this modle for close to a year so far
I built a 12 bay synology with each bay having this drive and created a cloud storage system.
I bought a exos x16 14 tb from the seller hyperhawk.
I have no explanation, but lately, larger exos drives are cheaper per terabyte than ironwolf drives.
