The warranty information is stored online and lasts for 4-5 yrs. I am happier with it than the big unit it replaced.

Seagate freeagent 500 gb 3. Inch usb 2. Drive. Gb storage size is perfect for most computers.
Cons
This drive is a pos. Don't think about the warranty.
I find this unforgivable. The service all along the way is as unhelpful as possible. It feels like extortion.
Don't buy seagate external disks. I own external disks from wd and samsung and none of them have given me consistent quality problems like suckgate. If your connector fails, there is only one salvation because there are no replacement control boards!
The drive simply stops powering on. Have even busted the unit apart and reinstalled the drive in a new casing. It is a very common problem mentioned right here in amazon reviews on this product and very soon i will have to salvage that too.

I've had no problem with the computer finding the drive or losing data.
Price
Was a little skeptical as the price was low compared to other hdds at the time i bought, but it turned out to be a great buy.
I was especially pleased to get it for a most modest cost.
I have only found used models of the one i am interested in, however the price is low enough that i will probably buy it.
Packaging/appearance
It worked right out of the box- plugged it in and it was up and running.
Competitiveness
I love it and am thinking about moving up to the 1tb model now.
I even use newer models at work.
That said, it really pales in comparison to my 500gb wd caviar black, which normally reaches speeds of 100/90mbps.
Previously, i have used a 250gb of the same model.

However there is no onoff switch so the only way of turning it on is connecting it to a computer

I really dont like this and i can see it being a problem if say my ubuntu installation doesnt recognize it

Immediately the free space on the startup drive began to fluctuate greatly
