This adapter i can say is on the maximum size a plug could be without interfering with the adjacent plugs.

I had one of these for a while but i'm rough on my equipment and i destroyed it through no fault of it's own, the build quality is fine.

Perhaps this has some impact the firewire read performance, more likely an issue with the drive/interface combination.
