Pros & Cons
Pros
My nas setup as raid 0 (20tb total) and speeds are great. Have a qnap tr-004 as my ext usb. Drives pushing 220mbs + consistently with burst going even higher. Tb to tb transfer rate reaches 85mb/s with my usb 3.
Cons
Seagate has a bad batch of 10tb drives, or they are incompatible. The part number is important and has nothing to do with batch numbers. Tried a different raid array and analyzed and again same result failed to analyze.
Seagate does honor the warranty (until november 2024, about 3 years) the buyer pays for return shipping, which is meh. I understand they have to charge you if you don't return the drive, but the price should be msrp.
The drive is incredibly noisy whenever it is idle. If i run an extended smart test the noise ceases while the test is running. However as soon as the drive is idle it begins making constant head seeking noises. It's so loud that when i was trying to g... Read More
Highlights
Quality
I've been really happy with the ease of install, performance and longevity of these drives.
Just holding my old drive (wd blue 6tg) with the ironwolf wow.
I returned it and will change my review once i receive a working product.
As i said, i'm very happy with the performance of the first drive, i just placed another order for the same.
Price
However i was still within my return window at amazon, and they processed the return right away, it was a little tricky getting... Read More
A few days later, the price dropped $20 and i bought another.
Shipping
Initializing and partitioning this drive into four 4 tb sections was simple and fast in my external drive dock.
Packaging/appearance
All of the other drives came from the egg because their packaging is better when you buy in bulk.
I had it ship out of the country so seagate's warranty wouldn't cover it, if anything i would take points off for that.
Competitiveness
Have a qnap tr-004 as my ext usb.
I'm filling up a nas with these drives on a raid5, buying one at time for budget reasons.
However, those warranty periods don't appear to be in line with seagate's claim of a 5-year warranty for these drives.
I received them in a well-wrapped package, installed them and both are displayed properly in the system.
