Pros & Cons
Pros
Good performance and whisper quiet. I find it is quiet, and dependable so far. The drive is very good and works smoothly.
T tests show the drive to be normal. Checking the warranty with seagate shows that these are intended for the us, with a valid warranty and data recovery service. Always be sure to run a diagnostic before trusting any drive to data.
Cons
Seagate does honor the warranty (until november 2024, about 3 years) the buyer pays for return shipping, which is meh. The warranty does nothing to make me whole again. Called amazon---talked to india.
In the last 36 hours another 128 sectors were reallocated. Tried a different raid array and analyzed and again same result failed to analyze. Returning for the 6tb version.
The drive is incredibly noisy whenever it is idle. If i run an extended smart test the noise ceases while the test is running. However as soon as the drive is idle it begins making constant head seeking noises. It's so loud that when i was trying to g... Read More
Highlights
Quality
Compatible with my nas drive very happy with the product.
I've been really happy with the ease of install, performance and longevity of these drives.
As i said, i'm very happy with the performance of the first drive, i just placed another order for the same.
I expect it to runfor at least 2 years at which time i will replace it as i always do with the main hard drive.
Price
However i was still within my return window at amazon, and they processed the return right away, it was a little tricky getting... Read More
A few days later, the price dropped $20 and i bought another.
Shipping
Initializing and partitioning this drive into four 4 tb sections was simple and fast in my external drive dock.
Packaging/appearance
All of the other drives came from the egg because their packaging is better when you buy in bulk.
Worked perfectly right out of the box.
I had it ship out of the country so seagate's warranty wouldn't cover it, if anything i would take points off for that.
Competitiveness
I'm filling up a nas with these drives on a raid5, buying one at time for budget reasons.
Have a qnap tr-004 as my ext usb.
However, those warranty periods don't appear to be in line with seagate's claim of a 5-year warranty for these drives.
I started with a raid5 configuration on one system and changed to shr on the other.
