Pros
Seagate's ironwolf drives give a solid three years of great performance and reliability. Their warranty replacement is excellent, with only one you need to pay shipping costs to send the defective drive back.
These platter drives are considerably less expensive than solid-state drives with comparable capacity, but also a fair bit slower and noisier. The 7200 rpm spindle speed and 256mb cache give the 8tb ironwolf a nice performance boost compared to lower ... Read More
They hang off external usb to scsi enclosures and run like a charm. They are fairly loud, if comparing against desktop hard drives. Not insanely loud, but louder than your standard 5400rpm deep storage desktop hdd.
Cons
Ironwolf is a great drive when it works, but when they don't you'll have to deal with a terrible, extended customer support situation. A 3rd party seller from amazon sold me the drive so they would not offer a warranty. Installed the drive in server a... Read More
Seagate says they require 10 days after delivery before they will update your case status. They then say they never received the drive, and tell me to contact usps to get a tracer.

I've gone through three 8 tb iron wolf hdds, and they last for many years, very heavy rebuild after rebuild after rebuild.
These are extreme durable drives and amazon put this on my doorstep within 3 hours of my order.
Those 8 tb are open to air, and the 16 tb are helium sealed, which is less friction and cooler.
I have read that when all hdds are 14 tb, i can expand the capacity of my raid 5, which is one of those, i will believe it when i see it.

I have a nas populated with 8 tbs and am replacing with 14 tbs in a raid 5
