Pros & Cons
Pros
Shark iq is an absolute savant at closing doors on itself. It does a good job navigating and doesn't get stuck often. Comes with a few bumper strips to keep it away from stairs or other areas.
Shark iq av992 is a very solid robot vac and a huge upgrade from your basic “dumb’ (random navigation) robot like the roomba 600 series. The wirecutter-recommended upgrade pick, the roborock s4 max, is currently $309 after coupon, normally $429.
The app is easy to set up. It self charges when the battery is low. The battery life is another consideration.
This robot vac is great for vacuuming. It is relatively quiet and has strong suction. The vacuum has three suction settings.
Cons
Update returning it,runs for a few minutes and docks. Going back to irobot.
Highlights
Quality
For the price, i am happy with the new shark models.
Overall, i am 9/10 satisfied with the shark iq robot vacuum av992.
I also had trouble with the app.
We are no longer playing dodge-the-robot nearly as much with the predictable coverage pattern.
Competitiveness
for this reason, i consider them all to be 5-star products.
The dustbin photo is following a single cleaning cycle, and we had recently vacuumed with our full-size upright.
the other brands which have features and mapping that i like better than shark also come at a much higher price point.

Most can be resolved by software updates but the current price of 379 puts it in the territory of lidarnavigating robots and its camerabased navigation is very good but still inferior

For now i’d recommend the roborock s4 max the wirecutter’s “upgrade pick” which navigates via lidar and is actually less expensive today 5421 than the shark at 309 regular price 429

They are particularly illsuited for carpet because they leave unsightly asymmetrical patterns behind

It’s clean but it looks like you hired a drunk to do the work

No idea where they got that from…this vac navigates by a camera on top which watches your ceilings to orient itself

The downside is that unlike lidarbased robots it needs light to function well

The manual even says if vacuuming at night leave the lights on
