I put rice in mine but im thinking of also adding fine sand to the rear bag as it seems the rice doesnt fill in tight

We used plastic pellets to fill because if they were left in a shed or garage mice would probably eat through the material to get to the rice and if it got wet the rice would puff up and later start to smell
