The space for your ear is larger in these than the audio technica ones and that makes a load of difference for my ears

The stock pads are as nearly everyone points out fairly uncomfortable

I initially replaced with brainwavz pads which are incredibly comfortable but which change the sound of the fostex phones substantially

As mentioned in other reviews they are very hard to put on be careful and go slow its like putting on a bicycle tire
