Pros & Cons
Cons
I am very disappointed. This makes it almost impossible to listen anything on low volume. You hear the amplified cable noise along with the audio.
Highlights
Quality
Superb detailed sound quality and natural bass.
Also, great sound quality, highly recommended for any use but brilliant for mixing and mastering, nice flat respobse
Highs are crisp and highly detailed you would never call these headphones veiled in any shape or form.
This is no way to treat headphones, especially ones with this sound quality.
Price
Of course for £120 these are really a no brainer and a steal at that price, i never heard the original 840 but going on the for... Read More
All in all (despite the extra £17) well worth the money.
Got these at a ridiculously cheap price (£31 odd - not sure if it was a mistake!
I bought these reduced - gen 1; a customer return for £60.
Packaging/appearance
I got a pair of these (gen 1 new packaging) as a present for my dad (christmas 2021), and was he was very pleased with them.
These were purchased to replace a pair of grado 325e's that packed up in one ear, and i far prefer the sound of these, and they... Read More

My other phones include audeze lcdx beyer dt770 pro 80 ohms yamaha hph mt5 and rh5ma dunu est 112 and truthear zeroredthe direct comparison would be with the beyers as they are much the same price and target market

Without eq both are overly bright but the shures have a a tonal tilt and are bass heavy

The dt770s sound a bit more bouncy more enthusiastic which is probably because its not possible to completely eliminate the upper presence beyer spike but the bass is less defined the shures are much easier to follow the notes on a bass guitar for example

Compared to the eqd lcdx there is unsurprisingly a noticeable gap but thats to be expected

Without eq i doubt id use either pair much but then the lcdx sound a bit underwhelming without it too

The onely phones i use without anything are the iems so the dunus which are a bit bright and the zeroreds but they were intentionally designed to harman curve anyway so you might expect that

Ive previously purchased some headphones that were monitoring headphones and was very disappointed at the lifeless sound quality no such problems here
