Pros

The bass response is very nice as well, but in no way drowns the mid-range and treble. The bass drum has decent impact. Pipe organs sound magnificently, from the rumble of the lowest bass notes to the smallest, highest pipes.

The shure srh-940 is an incredibly detailed sounding dynamic headphone. It's considerably better than the sennheiser hd 650 in upper highs and treble detail. The sound is very similar to raekwon's shaolin vs. The shure shaolin headphone.

I must say that i am legitimately surprised--these things have detail! And i am a picky person when it comes to most things. If i go home without what i want, it literally eats me up inside.

In loud, full orchestral passages the sound blossoms instead of becoming constrained. The srh940 will render complex subtleties (fast electric guitar music for example) with unrivaled speed and fine detail.

Cons

Shure srh940 headphones have a nice balanced sound but the design is flawed. The headband has bubbles of pad on the underside, supposedly to make it more comfortable. The right headpiece is loose and doesnt fit correctly. Lt;type> broke, etc.

It's incredible how durable the srh440s and srh840s are, but equally incredible how terrible these are. They are certainly not worth the frustration that comes with the fragility. Until that is addressed, i would recommend looking elsewhere.

Competitiveness

I used to think that i was a basshead, and i still probably am, but these have shown me new things in my music.

They are not heavy but seem heavier than the audio-technica ath-m50s or some other brands/models i use.

I have similar priced beyerdynamic headphones, and i actually think these shure srh 940's blow them away.

I grabbed an open box deal on these after reading several reviews which compared them favorably to sennheiser hd800s, which cost $1500.
