Quality
Overall, i'm very pleased with the flash.
This flash works great with the pentax k10d.
As some others have pointed out too - it will not function as a manual optical slave with the built-in flash on a p-ttl camera.
However, build quality is very good and on par with the metz.

Competitiveness
More recently, i found a great price on the sigma 530 super and decided to buy.
The hot-shoe mounted exposure in p-ttl seems to underexpose 1-1.
It cost much less than the pentax af540 but works just as good, if not better.
