Pros
The pedal works well, and the can holds a lot. My only complaint is that it slides around a bit because my husband can’t just gently touch the pedal. The white costco garbage bags fit perfectly, and this fits great in the space i needed.
The locking mechanism works perfectly, even with a garbage bag hanging over the front lip. The lock physically moves in and our to latch. It locks well, although it is hard to push the lock button in.
Cons

There was the remnants of a torn off label on the inside of the can. I order this garbage bin and the lid din't works. No lid in box.

The soft closing feature along with the step opening mechanism suits me just fine!
I bought this a few months ago (maybe 5 months now) and i am not disappointed.
Its very awkward with the lids hanging.
Lid was hard to get on, however if you turn it upside down with the lid on the floor and you push the garbage can down it works just fine!
Competitiveness
To overcome this flaw i put a 5lbs weight in the bottom of the bin to help hold it in place.
This simplehuman one was only saying that it is a 40l can, but it is physically larger in each dimension than the old sterilite.

There is no way our pets can get into it if the lid is locked

Its not particularly stylish but it does have a couple of metal accents that upgrade the look from 34black trash can34 to 34oh thats ok34

The bags intended for it are pretty pricey but ive been using another brand that fits though not perfectly

The lid cannot come off and it cannot be opened when the lock is on

The bags pull out nicely as well i’ve noticed doesn’t get suctioned in
