The stitching is straight with what looks to be a good even tension throughout

That tension is important with stretch fabric in order to keep the stitches from breaking when the fabric is stretched

The band tends to be highwaisted which is really really nice

There is also a drawstring either for look or to pull them a bit tighter of they are baggy on you
