The pillow had a stong odore to it when i slept on it the first couple of nights but it seems to be dissolving now

The gel does have some cooling properties but i find the other side which is just memory foam to be a little too soft for my taste

I used to wake up several times a night only woke up twice the 1st night with this pillow once was because of a storm

The cooling thing is kind of a gimmick but i never went into this purchase thinking it would be super effective on that front the blue side is firmer than the other side though
