Never read a terry pratchett book before but loved this. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audio book and reading along. They are what they are.
Highlights
Quality
Surreal but simultaneously close to daily reality, always worth opening.
Best to read them in order, starting with colour of magic as the characters develop, but this one can be read on its own.
This book lay on my bed stand for a good four months before i finally dug in.
A petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; (a) capriciously malevolent bully.

As others reviewers have mentioned this is an unusual pratchett book in that its set apparently centuries prior to the other discworld stories and therefore doesnt feature any of the usual characters

Some reviewers didnt like this and thats understandable pratchetts carefullydrawn characters are 90 of the appeal and if youre like me youve bought his books just to find out what happens next to rincewind sam vimes or esme weatherwax

The violence in other pratchett books tends to be slapstick and cartoonish but here its a bit too close to the bone
