Pros & Cons
Pros
The sonoff s31 smart plug has a lot of desirable capabilities, and can be expanded on as long as sonoff doesn't change future iterations of this plug to lock it down for us tinkerers. I only wish that the programming pads had holes in them so that i c... Read More
Cons
This plug is rubbish! It's impossible to do anything with this plug unless you turn over your personal information and i think that is alarming. The instructions are useless. I have many other wireless outlets in my home that function well on their ow... Read More

Works good and can digitally record your power usage!
Rather than use the provided app, i reflashed this with esphome in about 10 minutes including disassembly and reassembly time.
I would never use these plugs with the default firmware on them, i flash them with tasmota and bring them into home assistant.
Price
It's an affordable device that has helped me save a lot on my energy bill.
It's the perfect cost-effective smart switch, once you re-flash it with custom firmware.

Packaging/appearance
The only difference i noticed is that the two i ordered were not plastic wrapped like the s31s i purchased on the more expensiv... Read More

I started off with 2 just to test them out and make sure they would play nicely with esphome and would give me the data i wanted

Im now up to 18 of them scattered around my house half of which are physically modified to disable the relay so i can monitor the energy use of things like my refrigerator without ever worrying that it might accidentally turn off

Note that tasmota states these have their dc gnd pin hooked to the mains neutral pin which means you should not try to attach external sensors due to the shock risk

Ive never used the sonoff app but i guess thats nice for people who dont want just a standalone system requires a cloud connection for the devices i believe

These are great for custom flashing with esphome or tasmota though i would not recommend them on stock firmware

Throw tasmota on this and you have a lot more features for a very cheap smart plug with power monitoring
