Pros

Charging time is fairly quick unless the batteries are fully discharged in which case they need to be topped off for a full charge. The sony batteries seem to last as long as alkalines. Though it takes >4 hours to charge 4 aa batteries.

The refresh button drains all the batteries then fully charges them. Refresh button is a nice feature.

In this price range, the charger is exceptional. Like that really matters. This charger is excellent.

It is the best charger i have ever used in my life. But that is something i do not believe any other vendor has come up with any better. It also treats every battery separately (my old one needed pairs of batteries). Very useful imo.

Cons

The voltage level drops so rapidly and the batteries are unusable after 2 to 3 days. At full charge, these batteries fail after 5-10 photos in my canon a710is camera.

But it is supposed to do aa batteries as well, and i've had absolutely no luck with the aa batteries that came with the charger.

Conclusionfor the 2009 price, i give this product 4 stars; knocking 1 star off for the low number of charges on each battery.

Competitiveness

Instead, i would recommend the sanyo eneloop batteries.

I am using the charger with some sanyo eneloop batteries, and it works great.

It took about 4 hours to complete charging 4aa batteries.

I have tried to charge different brands of rechargable battery with this charger using its refresh function.
