Pros & Cons
Pros
Sony bdp-s5500 dvd player allows you to make the most of dvd's/blu-rays. Playback of blue ray is flawless both on a tv and through a projector onto a 100 screen.
Easy to use, plug and play, links up to wi-fi easy (if you can remember your pass code) added bonus being able to play playstation3 games on it. Connected to the internet by wi-fi or ethernet and after updating to the latest firmware the player offers... Read More
The unit works very well with a very fast wi-fi. Works ok but had to update firmware initially as sony had changed their network stuff. Online update works now but seems a bit flaky at times.
Cons
Sony dvd/by player s5500 - poor quality product - expensive dvd - the wifi is pathetic. Sony support suggest connecting to router with ethernet cable (router upsatirs - tv downstairs)- that's not why i bought a player with built-in wireless.
Highlights
Quality
The quality is excellent, and even my old dvds seem to have an enjoyed an upscaling in quality.
Picture quality is great, whether dvd or bluray.
Online update works now but seems a bit flaky at times.
Competitiveness
It effectively acts as a chromecast, any app on my android phone with a 'cast' button seems to be happy to cast to it.
It was a doddle to connect to the tv and my wifi network and the sound and picture quality knocks spots off my apple tv.

Honestly i probably would have preferred a full size unit as i have all my av gear in a cabinet and it would have looked better being the same size as everything else

Of course if space is an issue i can see that the size would appeal to many people

It is also very light and feels quite cheap

When i ordered this i knew that there was no display but i assumed that if you paused play it would display the time elapsed and total play time it does not unless the disc shows it

This i find irritating as the playing time is not always shown on the case so occasionally i dont know whether i have time to watch a film
