Pros & Cons

Pros

This is a tricky review to do but here we go. This lens truly delivers. The reviewer before me, michael j.

Manual and auto focus are sharp, accurate, and lightning fast. Paired with the nex's focus peaking, it really is very easy to use. Focus is extremely fast and precise.

Sharpness is unquestionable from f2. It's very sharp when stopped down, and optically excellent.

This lens has surprisingly good macro capability. Allows you to create blurred backgrounds on close-ups that render as virtual cloud forms.

Cons

The truth needs to be told for shooters that are still being fooled. This is an overpriced reduction lens that has no focal scale, focus index, feet/meter scales nor depth-of-field scale. The max is only about 10meg images at 36mm/1.

Quality

Focal length and image quality is superb.

While improved image quality was a factor for buying the 24 zeiss, i also understand the nature of diminishing returns when it ...  Read More

It makes it very painful for me to look at the images taken with the sony 16mm f/2.

This is done via a download from sony website with the camera tethered to a computer.

Price

However, if you're really on the fence and the price is bothering you, there are other options that are more versatile and even...  Read More

Despite my 4*(which is only 4* because the price) review because it is a great lens, i only recommend it if the price isn't an ...  Read More

4 for this price, the price is generally in line with these above lenses.

If the price was around $600 i would happily and easily recommend it.

Shipping

I just dont like the shipping which was delayed for more than 1 wk.

I got it in less than 48 hrs on standard shipping.

Packaging/appearance

Yup, the sharp pictures of the rx100 m3, i believe, rival that of the sel24f18z.

Obviously, the zeiss can also autofocus on the nex body, which is just icing on the cake.

Competitiveness

Great focal length for walking around, especially with a 24mp sensor that allows hefty cropping when necessary.

This lens makes the nex series and sets this system apart from their competitors.

If you're shooting with a6300 or lower, this means no image stabilization.

I hope tamron, sigma or someone else will start making high quality e-mount lenses soon to create some competition.

It is not a huge deal if youre only shooting stills and since it is f1

Ill add pictures of the lens on the camera if people want but i dont see much reason in attaching pictures taken with the lens on amazon considering the loss of quality and size
