Pros & Cons
Pros
Great picture, great flexibility in post, great steadicam ability. Steadycam quality is very good.
Zeiss vario-sonnar t* 29mm wide angle lens. Hoya 62mm dmc pro1 glass protector. Reality is clear full opluque glass lense.
Sony dsc-rx10 camera uses this sensor. It looks to be at least as good as the rx10, which makes sense since it's the same sensor and cpu.
The sony fdr-ax100 is a 4k camcorder with a full-frame sensor. It is a great value for the money, especially compared to the canon xc10, which has similar specifications and size.
Internal mic is very good. Dual-recording is enabled. Recording time using a 64gb sd with xavc-s 4k mode and dual recording off, will yield approx.
Cons
Dont buy the fdr-ax100 camera. It is like buying a ev car which would go dead one day with a fully degraded battery. The cmos sensor is beyond mere rolling shutter.
Highlights
Quality
Full manual control of iris, gain, shutter speed and built in nd filters.
I like easy exposure control and the tilt able viewfinder, very good for daylight.
It is possible to take digital images with the ax100 but it is quite awkward and image capture is very, very slow almost painfully slow.
It's made in canada, and really augments the lack of wide angle on this camera.
Price
Terrific value and fab images for the money.
Lens: this is a really great lens, a lens like this could go for $800.
It is only around $900 and has 4k video capabilities and more.
I was afraid to spend a lot of money on this and then be regret not being able to properly use it.
Shipping
A great camcorder that was delivered very quickly!
They had good customer service, one quick phone call and they sent prepaid fedex mail label.
I was eagerly awaiting it for so long, and finally got it last week!

This being the second to the top end consumer 4k camcorder, it's packed with features.
In my box i received a download code for a free copy of movie studio 13 platinum.
A lot of great features packed into a tiny package, but yet has a nice weight to it and doesn't feel cheaply made.
Competitiveness
Obviously, the ax100 is worlds better than relatively loud and slower dslrs.
The camcorder fits perfectly in your hands and is very similar in size and weight to the original sony handycam that worked wit... Read More
Of these, there are two serious competitors and one "maybe".
Will update the review later, and even compare it to a 4k pxw-z100 and the venerable hd nx5u.

The images have a crispness to them that for me puts the ax100 above the competition from other consumer 4k camcorders both from sony and panasonic forget the footage youll find on youtube its video output has to be seen straight from the memory card to a 4k tv

Compared to the competition but not jawdropping
